The following is a list of primary sources. This list is merely an example of some primary sources but DOES NOT include every type of primary source available to historians.

  • newspaper articles
  • letters
  • court records (including birth certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses, etc.)
  • census records
  • autobiographies
  • personal manuscripts
  • business records documenting transactions, activities, and organization of companies
  • photographs
  • diaries and journals
  • artifacts
  • recordings or interviews
  • artwork and music created at the time of the event
  • books or poetry written and the time of the event
